Some things are good on their own, but GREAT when they’re together. (Cue Fabolous ft. NeYo’s “Make me Better”) No really, please do so that your blog-reading enjoyment level can reach its full potential.

Here are a few dynamic duos that come to mind:

Benjamin + me He’s incredible, I’m awesome, together we rule. Simple math here, people.

avocado + toast Avocado is quite possibly the most fascinating fruit to have ever come in contact with my taste buds. Put it this way: my empathy for any particular human runs out as soon as I find out that they don’t like avocado—i mean, if that’s the case, could we ever really see eye to eye on anything? And I can think of nothing that makes the kitchen smell homey as quickly as a simple slice of toast (preferably oat-nut). Put the two of them together and boom-zap-zing: you’ve created a slab of delight.

sushi + girlfriends Let it be known that I think girlfriends are the best invention since, let’s say avocado on toast. Although I’m pretty sure the girlfriends came first. Girlfriends always know how to differentiate whether a situation calls for a listening ear, a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, a reality check, or a good laugh. Sushi is one of those rare foods that is strangely capable of making me feel like all is well with the world even when I was anxious and moody 5 minutes before I ate it. Sushi with girlfriends = why can’t this happen every single day?

Coffee-mate + Nescafé The collision of two icons in the world of coffee convenience? Yes, please. I have never been a morning person (ask my family, my antics inspired the official coining of the term “sleepy grumpies”). Five extra minutes in the morning is the difference between an uneventful Tuesday and running out the door with one shoe on and my hair half-dry. So yes, I’ll take any help I can get. When Nescafé and Coffee-mate sent me a package with samples of their new product and I realized that it takes all the guesswork out (coffee + creamer—all you need is hot water!), I was pretty stoked. I used to have to choose between getting to work on time and getting a coffee. It turns out I can have both.

Hay cosas que son buenas así solitas, pero fabulosas cuando están juntas. Se me viene a la mente la canción “Make me Better” de Fabolous ft. NeYo, viene siendo la música de fondo ideal para tu lectura de este post.

Aquí te van unos dúos dinámicos que se me vienen a la mente sin pensarle mucho (para la respuesta más auténtica, no es necesario pensar tanto):

Benjamin + yo El es increíble, yo soy fabulosa, y juntos somos tremendos. Matemáticas sencillas.

pan tostado + aguacate Sin exagerar, es probable que el aguacate sea la fruta más fascinante que ha estado en contacto con mis papilas gustativas. Digámoslo así: si me entero que a algún conocido no le gustan los aguacates, pierdo la habilidad de identificarme con el o ella. Y no hay nada que tan rápidamente logre que una casa huela a hogar como un pedazo de pan tostado (de preferencia OatNut). Júntalos y zas: has creado una rebanada de gloria.

amigas + sushi Que sepa todo el mundo que yo creo que las amigas son el mejor invento desde… el pan tostado con aguacate. Aunque las amigas probablemente llegaron primero. Ellas tienen la intuición de saber exactamente lo que necesitas: un oído que te escuche, una mano que te ayude, un pañuelo de lágrimas, una buena carcajada o de plano una intervención. El sushi es una de esas comidas extrañas que tiene la capacidad de hacerme sentir que todo va a estar bien, aún si 5 minutos antes andaba con un genio insoportable. Sushi con amigas = ¿Por qué no puede suceder esto todo los días?

Coffee-mate + Nescafé ¿La colisión de dos iconos de la conveniencia en el mundo del café? Si, por favor. Nunca he sido muy mañanera. Pregúntale a cualquier miembro de mi familia, y ellos con gusto te contarán de mi “famita” con lujo de detalle (aunque creo que exageran un poco, pero en fin…) Cinco minutos en la mañana para mi pueden hacer toda la diferencia, así que aceptaré toda la ayuda posible. Cuando Nescafé y Coffee-mate me mandaron un paquete con muestras de su nuevo producto y me di cuenta que elimina las conjeturas mañaneras (café en polvo mas crema en polvo—lo único que necesitas es agua caliente), me emocioné. Antes tenía que elegir entre ir por un café y llegar a tiempo a la chamba. Ahora me doy cuenta que puedo tener ambas cosas. #Throwback to a fun idea turned project turned full-blown-photoshoot. I was sitting on the breathtaking beach of Cancun with my friend Vania savoring a shrimp coctail and thinking about how cute it would be to create some t-shirts with two of the most common Spanish-language nicknames. If you're not a "güerita" ("blondie" or "whitie") you're a "morenaza" ("bronzed beauty" or "darkie"), and if you're somewhere in the middle (or you just don't cayurrr like me) you can pull off both. I ended up making the words out of real magazine cut-outs, I then took a picture of them on white paper, imported them into photoshop, and used those as designs for screen-printing (I had that part done professionally). As you can see, I wanted a pinky, girly theme for the photoshoot that also showcased the variety of looks you can create with the pieces. My friend Nelly served as makeup artist, hair-stylist, and model. It really was loads of fun! I just put a few more shirts up at my ETSY shop if you'd like to own one :D

P.S. After browsing through these pictures I have decided to go back to my natural blonde color ASAP. SO much easier to maintain! (OK the copious amounts of breakage I've been experiencing lately may also be a factor!)

Hagamos un pequeño #flashback a una idea que se convirtió en proyecto que se convirtió en sesión de fotos. Todo empezó en Cancun; estaba al lado del mar saboreándome un coctel de camarones con mi amiga Vania, y se nos ocurrió que sería lindo hacer camisetas con dos de los apodos más conocidos del idioma español. Si no eres una "güerita", eres una "morenaza". O si estás en algún punto intermedio (o si de plano estás loca, como yo), puedes portar ambos apodos. Hice las palabras con recortes reales de revista, de ahí las fotografié sobre un papel blanco para importar al Photoshop, y utilicé estas imágenes como diseños para hacer cerigrafía (esta parte se la dejé a un profesional). Como puedes ver, quise irme con un tema muy cuki donde el color rosa fuera muy prominente, y mi amiga Nelly la hizo de maquillista, estilista, y modelo. ¡Cómo nos divertimos! Acabo de subir unas playeras a mi tienda de ETSY, por si te gustaría tener una ;)

P.D. Después de ver estas fotos he decidido que ya es tiempo de regresar a mi color de cabello natural lo más pronto posible. ¡Mil veces más fácil de mantener! (Bueno, quizá la cantidad espantosa de cabellos quebrados que he tenido últimamente tenga algo que ver)
