Growing up

Image Growing up: it’s a funny thing that happens to us all. We can deny it, we can fight it, we can try to hide it, but we can’t stop it. And sometimes I wonder why we struggle so much with it. I personally prefer to embrace it. I wouldn’t go back, not for a second! Today I am stronger, wiser, and fiercer than yesterday (I added the ‘fierce’ part solely to avoid sounding like a Britney Spears song).

As far as style goes, we all go through phases and we all evolve. I don’t believe that there are set ‘rules’ for what you can and cannot wear based on your age (look at Betsey Johnson!), but I do recognize that some things have worked better for me at different times in my life, and others work better now. Plus, my tastes change.

So while I most certainly don’t rule out stores like Urban Outfitters, I also don’t find any pieces sucking me in and begging me to buy them like they used to. Lately I am consistently drawn to Club Monaco and BCBG. Oh, who am I kidding with ‘lately’, it’s been about 7 years of this madness. Today I decided to play up the part of the “mature business woman”. Because when I wear this outfit you KNOW I mean business!

Hue's it gonna be?

DSC_2813 1 Lately I’ve been loving a monochromatic clothing color palette with little splashes of color here and there (my hair being one of the main contributors in the ‘splash of color’ department). It makes the whole morning matching game so much easier.

Once you’ve chosen a garment, you then have a very limited range of possible accompanying garments, and as you can imagine, it gives my getting-ready-time a substantial slice.

Note to self: Reorganize the closet so it is easier to navigate with one eye open (yeah, I’m NOT a morning person).

That, or start choosing my outfits at night, a la night-before-the-first-day-of-fifth-grade.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ando fascinada con la onda de vestirme de un solo color, con pequeños detallitos que le dan vida y color a mi look (sobre todo ahorita con mi cabello, un “detallito” que me acompaña todos los días y definitivamente contribuye en el departamento del color).
Es increíble cómo facilita el juego de combinar prendas cada mañana. Una vez que hayas elegido una (ya sean pantalones, shorts, una falda, o un top), tienes un rango muy limitado de posibles acompañantes, y esto equivale a tiempo ahorrado (y una vida más productiva).
Nota a mi misma: Reorganiza el clóset para que sea mas fácil de navegar con un ojo cerrado (las mañanas y yo no nos llevamos muy bien).
Eso, o empezar a elegir mi outfit antes de dormir, tipo ‘noche antes del primer dia de clases’.
Playing dress-up
DSC_2730 To me, dressing up for no particular reason at all is the ultimate celebration of being a woman. I say, why wait for “just the right occasion” to wear that fancy dress you’ve been itching to don, or those incredible stilettos that have been calling your name or that eccentric hat you bought while you were on vacation? The right occasion presents itself the moment you are in the mood for it to do so.
And that’s how I felt today. No need to justify or explain the white long flowy lacy dress, I wore it just for the heck-of-it, and it felt great!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Y asi me sentí hoy. Me encantó!

Shine on, you crazy diamonds!

The Shorts

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is definitely a special place in my heart for all my clothes, and I’m not big on favoritism. With that said, I must admit: these have got to be my favorite shorts. I don’t know of another piece that injects zest into an outfit without wanting to steal the entire show. Despite the fact that they stand out (thanks to their rug-like texture and bold colors), they somehow manage to know how to complement perfectly. I get asked where I got them so often that I wish I had something more interesting or exotic to say (Oaxaca? Chiapas? Morocco? Thailand? Ok, that was out there!) than “Melrose”. Come to think of it, I haven’t been back to that store since the day I bought these over 2 years ago... Gotta go back to see if the place still exists!
CRAZY Pantalones!
Image Me auto proclamo amante de los “pantalones locos” – pantalones con diversos colores, con estampados y dibujitos, pantalones con un ajuste único o irregular, pantalones que provocan un "¡Whoa", "¡Órale!", y "¿Por qué?" ...
Lo que mas me alegra es incorporar estos pantalones en un conjunto sorprendente y colorido que me hace decir "te guste o te fascine, este es MI estilo!" :p
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am a self proclaimed lover of “crazy pants” – pants with colors, patterns, designs; pants with a unique fit or an irregular shape; pants that make you say “Whoa!”, “Yikes”, and “Why?”...

My favorite part is incorporating these pants into a surprising and colorful ensemble that makes ME say "Like it or love it, this is MY style!" (yes, like or love are the only two options) :p

Loving my Lavender

Image

I FINALLY have my hair relatively close to the color that inspired this whole bleach-blonde, high-maintenance, constantly-changing, can't-quite-get-used-to-it-but-still-love-it ordeal.LALALALAVENDER.

Not quite perfect, but close.

I must say, the purple family taking a semi-permanent residence in my hair has certainly made an impact on my clothing choices. These days the hair ALWAYS wants to be the protagonist and, to be quite honest, not just any garment can hang with that attitude.

Today's bonus is that it has allowed me to don (for the first time) the fluorescent light spring green tailored jacket that I bought so many months ago when my hair was platinum blonde. Platinum + fluorescent light spring green = Just No.

I don't always do the matchy-matchy thing but here I deemed it not only 100% appropriate, but 100% wonderful too.

Rubio platino + verde primavera fosforescente = nomás no.
